Curriculum planning
“Child-centredness”is the core value of our curriculum, which is in line with the“Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide”issued by the Education Bureau and the curriculum objectives and guidelines of our organization. We develop age-appropriate curriculum to cater for individual learning needs and styles. We strive to nurture balanced development in the domains of ethics, intellect, physique, social skills and aesthetics respectively.
Thematic approach is adopted themes connecting to children’s real-life experiences and interests. We encourage children to learn by doing and explore through play. Through observation, exploration and manipulation of things to accumulate knowledge and experience.Through discovering, questioning, and experimenting to enhance their self-initiated learning and unleash their potentials.
Beyond the classroom learning, activities are arranged to enrich children’s exposure and life experience.Besides, community talks are also organized for parents and children so they will get familiarized with their community and increase the sense of belonging.
We will follow the "Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide" (2017) to plan curriculum. Children of nursery classes will not be asked to write, and there will not be mechanical copying exercises and drills on calculation.
Learning / Teaching approach and activities
Integrated approaches are adopted to meet diverse needs while achieving learning objectives. We use story books to stimulate children’s curiosity and motivation to learn.Coupled with the whole language approach and project-based learning,a series of multifaceted explorative activities and play are implemented to facilitate children’s learning and reinforce their knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
We emphasize children’s self initiatives and design inspiring games or activities for teaching.According to the developmental needs of children at different ages,“perception-oriented parent-child activities"is introduced to parents to help children perceive different concepts and skills from personal operation based on games in daily life.Through musical rhythm, body movement and exploration, children are guided to develop physical flexibility creatively and learn to respect and establish interpersonal relationship.
Assessment of children’s learning experiences
According to the development assessment designed by our organization, the learning targets and assessment strategies of Language(CHI&ENG), Early Childhood Maths, Nature&Living, Art&Creativity, Physical Fitness&Health, Self&Society at different ages. A monthly learning report and a half-yearly assessment report are prepared by teachers through the records of continuous observations and conversations.
