Curriculum planning
With “child-centeredness” as the core value of the curriculum, the strategies including thematic stories, project work and whole language pedagogy are employed to unleash children's potentials for self-initiated learning; to achieve balanced development in morality intelligence, physical health, social interaction and aesthetics. Chinese and English storybooks are used to integrate all of the children’s learning and development areas, children’s listening, speaking, reading and writing skills are enhanced through systematic and diverse activities. Our school also integrates emotional education into daily activities and real-life situations, guiding children to identify and understand different emotions and correctly express their own emotions.
We will follow the "Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide" (2017) to plan curriculum. Children of nursery classes will not be asked to write, and there will not be mechanical copying exercises and drills on calculation.
Learning / Teaching approach and activities
Our curriculum is child-centered. Pedagogical approaches developmentally appropriate are allowing children learn through play and cultivate their interest in learning and capacity for critical thinking. A variety of systematic play activities is used to facilitate activity-based, whole-language and project-based teaching and learning. School-based curriculum is implemented catering to children’s diverse developmental needs and abilities. Self-care training and corners are designed to enhance children’s autonomy and independence of learning. Respective themes, project approach, whole-language approaches, book-based approach are adopted to foster children’s language abilities and unleash their potentials of self-initiated learning, in order to attain balanced and comprehensive development in children’s moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic domains.
