Curriculum planning
Our curriculum combines the merits of Chinese and Western cultures and education. Based on the core value of child-centred education, we designed a child-orientated Chinese and English curriculum. Our school offers a variety of exploratory activities for children. It is designed according to children's physical and mental development and abilities. We believe in learning through play and focus on inspiring children's inner drive to learn and the ability to think. We strive to develop children's potential and ability of automonous learning.
Learning / Teaching approach and activities
We adopt a Thematic and Story Approach and incorporate interesting, illustrated stories into our teaching model. Through diversified activities, sensory games, role play, etc., we cultivate children's self-confidence and development in the domains of cognition, language, social skills, aesthetics and arts, physical development and self care skills. Emphasis is placed on learning through real life situations, children's participation and interaction. Through self-oriented learning and learning through play, children are self-motivated to learn. Children can enhance their communication skills in English, Putonghua and Cantonese in different contexts and enjoy the fun of learning.
Assessment of children’s learning experiences
Through continuous observation, we record and assess children's development. We provide guidance according to children's individual differences. We create personal developmental portfolios to record children's learning progress.
School Characteristics
School vision and mission
Our school is committed to building children’s competencies in biliteracy and trilingual. We provide a rich language environment that supports Cantonese, English and Putonghua. Learning through playing and activities, we cultivate children’s self-confidence and inspire motivation to learn. Moreover, through incorporating the 5C’s of education, we strive to develop St. Catherine’s students to be Communicative, Collaborative, Creative and Compassionate, as well as Critical thinkers. We take pride in building the foundation from which they grow to be confident and passionate learners throughout school and beyond.
